Early years at home!

We're in week two and the novelty of home-schooling may be starting to wear off… but never fear! Our Early Years and Education Officer Becci is here to point you towards some amazing early years activities, ideas and links.

At the Corn Exchange...

Rhyme and Shine Online
Usually taking place in our Learning Centre, this free weekly singing session is for you and your under-2s and is streamed via Zoom: https://cornexchangenew.com/event/rhyme-and-shine-free-online-session

On Fridays, check out our Alphabetland videos - phonics play for the under-5s through songs, rhymes and games: https://cornexchangenew.com/event/alphabetland-phonics-play-for-the-under-5s

Little Story Sundays Online

This Sunday, keep your eyes peeled on the Corn Exchange website for the release of Little Story Sundays Online! This week the story is Arthur’s Dream Boat. There will be a video where you can sing songs and play games, before following a free link to watch the stage adaptation courtesy of the Scottish Book Trust. Then, head back to the Little Story Sundays Online page for free arts and crafts downloads for you and your children to do together at home. The stage adaptation of Arthur's Dream Boat was due to visit the Corn Exchange this weekend (Sun 5 Apr) so this is a lovely way to still engage with the show.

Nationally, it’s been so lovely to see such a boom in online content. There are hundreds of new and truly wonderful digital arts and cultural offerings popping up every day for young children and their families to enjoy. Here are just a few of my favourites:

This live music series for babies, toddlers and their grown-ups is now online here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsErPP9-JhLN8qJIjtK4AnQ

Dance with Jo!

Jo from Peek a Boo Moves is streaming dance and movement classes for early years and primary school children:

Treehouse Theatre’s bedtime stories

Traditional stories read aloud for the family to enjoy:

Sing-a-long with Music Tots
Singing sessions every morning! Both live streamed and recorded for you to listen and sing-a-long to afterwards: https://www.facebook.com/musictotswhitby/

The Arty Teacher

Great resources and ideas for parents from an art teacher for drawing, mark making, painting and art lessons:
